How to use this practice

Scenario

Your firm has been asked to audit Nova Foods for the year ending 30 June 20X6. Nova Foods makes packaged snacks and supplies supermarkets. It has not been audited by your firm before. The previous auditor resigned after a fee dispute.

Nova Foods has revenue of $42,000,000, profit before tax of $2,100,000 and total assets of $30,000,000. In October 20X5 it replaced its accounting and inventory system with a new enterprise system. Some data was transferred manually, and the finance team was not trained in the new system.

Inventories of $6,400,000 are held in the entity's main warehouse and in a third-party cold storage facility in another city. A large supermarket chain accounts for 40 percent of revenue and has asked for price reductions of 8 percent from next year. The entity has a bank loan of $9,000,000 with a covenant that requires profit before tax to exceed $1,800,000. The finance director's bonus depends on profit before tax.
