How to fill an existing PDF form

STEP 1

Open a fillable PDF

Choose one standard AcroForm PDF. Field names and current values appear beside a page preview. A scan or flat PDF has no interactive fields for this tool to fill.

STEP 2

Complete the fields

Edit text, tick boxes and choose listed options. Read-only fields remain locked. Switch preview pages to see the original layout; prepare the PDF to preview your saved changes.

STEP 3

Prepare and save a copy

Keep the fields editable, or tick Flatten to merge field appearances into the pages. Save the new PDF and open it to check all pages, not just the preview.

Standard forms, not an arbitrary PDF text editor

This tool reads the form fields already present in the PDF. It supports text fields, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns and option lists, including multiple selections where the original form permits them. Field names come from the PDF and may be technical rather than the labels printed on the page. Fields marked required are identified, but the tool does not validate the receiving organisation's submission rules.

The output font supports Latin characters. Other writing systems, XFA forms, calculated-field scripts, new field creation and certificate-based signing are not supported. Buttons and unsupported field types cannot be edited. Unlock a password-protected document with the password you know before using it. PDFs with detected digital signatures are refused because rewriting them can invalidate the signature.

Flattening removes interactive form fields after putting their appearances on the pages. It is useful when a recipient wants a fixed-looking copy, but it is not encryption, redaction or proof of identity. Keep an editable original. Field values stay in this tab and the downloaded output; the filler does not save them in browser preferences or send them to a server.

Questions

Can I type onto a scanned form?

Not with this tool. It fills existing interactive fields, not scanned boxes or ordinary page text.

Why does a field not change?

It may be read-only, unsupported or controlled by a calculation script. This tool does not run scripts embedded in the document.

Can I edit the result later?

Yes, if you leave Flatten off. A flattened copy no longer has interactive form fields, although other PDF editing tools may still alter its pages.

Is my form uploaded?

No. Reading fields, filling the PDF and generating the result happen inside your browser.
