Plenty of places will not take a PDF at all, a WhatsApp message, an Instagram post, a form that only accepts photos, a slide you are pasting into. An image of the page goes anywhere a photo goes.
The trade is that images cannot be searched or selected, and a page of dense text saved small becomes hard to read. If someone needs to read it properly or copy from it, send the PDF.
PNG holds sharper edges on text and line drawings; JPG produces far smaller files and suits pages with photographs on them. If you are unsure, start with JPG at a large size.

Practical limits depend on the tool, browser and available device memory. Large files can fail even when no explicit limit is shown. Keep an original and use a smaller job if this device cannot finish it.

Choose a larger size. Screen size is meant for sharing; print size gives you roughly twice the detail.
The size setting decides how many pixels each page gets. Small is for quick previews, Screen suits sharing and the web, Large is a bit sharper and is the default, and Print gives the biggest files for when the images will be printed. A larger size is sharper but takes more memory and more disk space.
JPG makes smaller files and has a quality slider from 50 to 98 percent. PNG is sharper for text and line drawings and has no quality loss, but the files are bigger. Pages with transparent areas are placed on a white background when you save as JPG.
You get one image per page, saved one at a time with names like document-page-3.jpg, not a zip. The result is a picture of the page, so the text in it is not selectable. If you want the words, use Extract text, or Image to text for a scan.
A password protected PDF has to be unlocked first. A very long document at the largest size can use a lot of memory, so convert it in parts if your browser slows down, and check that the number of images matches the number of pages.
