How to use this practice
This is practice written for this site in the style of ACCA's constructed response questions. It is not an ACCA question and the marking points are not ACCA's marking scheme. It follows the E3 syllabus on assurance engagements, quality management and ethics.
Write your answer in the box under each requirement. Show your workings for calculations. Your text stays in this browser.
Afterwards, open the marking points and tick each point that your answer made clearly and only once. Points marked as figures are correct amounts.
Scenario
Your firm has been asked by Green Power Co, an energy company, to provide assurance on the greenhouse gas emissions figures in its annual sustainability report, and on a five-year forecast of renewable energy output that will be included in a bond offering document.
The emissions data is collected by plant managers using spreadsheets, and the company measures it using its own definitions, which differ from those in some international standards. The forecast is based on assumptions about new wind farms that have not yet received planning permission.
Your firm also advises Green Power Co on how to reduce emissions. The fee for this work is larger than the fee for the audit. The partner in charge of the audit has been asked to lead this new engagement as well.
Requirement 1
Apply the five elements of an assurance engagement to the emissions report and to the forecast, and comment on whether each is satisfied. (8 marks)
