FR Financial Reporting. 20 marks, about 36 minutes at exam pace. Section C style, 20 marks.
Zahra Manufacturing prepares financial statements to 31 December 20X5 under IFRS Accounting Standards. You are the assistant accountant and need to deal with three matters.
Property. A building was bought on 1 January 20X1 for $2,000,000 with a useful life of 40 years and no residual value, and it has been depreciated on a straight line basis. The entity uses the revaluation model. On 31 December 20X4 the building was revalued to $2,400,000 and the remaining useful life was confirmed as 36 years.
Lease. On 1 January 20X5 the entity began a four-year lease of equipment with annual payments of $50,000 in arrears. The rate implicit in the lease is 6 percent. The annuity factor for 4 years at 6 percent is 3.4651. The lease is not exempt, and the right-of-use asset is depreciated over the lease term.
Warranty. In 20X5 the entity sold 10,000 units, each with a one-year warranty. Past experience suggests that 90 percent of units will have no defects, 7 percent will need minor repairs costing $100 each and 3 percent will need major repairs costing $500 each.
