How to use this practice

Scenario

Delta Ltd makes two products, X and Y. It has always charged overheads to products using machine hours. The managing director thinks that product X earns only a small profit at its current price of $60 and that product Y is very profitable at $150. She has asked you to look at the costs using activity-based costing (ABC).

Last year Delta Ltd made 5,000 units of X and 1,000 units of Y. Total overheads were $270,000. Direct costs per unit are $15 for X and $25 for Y.
