Dear Mr Hussain,

I am writing to let you know that I will be leaving the flat at the end of next month. My contract ends on 30 June, and I do not plan to renew it because I am moving to another city for work. I will also make sure that all the bills are paid up to the date I leave.

I would like to ask when my deposit will be returned. I have kept the flat clean and I have not damaged anything, but I would be happy to arrange a time for you to inspect it.

I also wondered whether a friend of mine could take over the flat. She is a quiet and responsible person who works at a local hospital, and I would be glad to introduce her to you if you are interested.

Thank you for your help during the time I have lived here.

Kind regards,

Imran Sheikh

Why it works

  • With a landlord you know by name, Dear Mr Hussain and Kind regards are suitable.
  • Each of the three bullet points has its own sentence or paragraph.
  • The writer is polite and offers to help, which suits a semi-formal letter.
