How to fix a sideways or upside down PDF

A scanner records which way up it thinks the page is. When it guesses wrong, every reader shows the document sideways, and rotating in the viewer does not save.

Rotate and reorder
Whichever tool you use here, the file stays on your device. How that works

Step by step

  1. 1Add the PDF and every page appears as a thumbnail.
  2. 2Turn individual pages, or use Turn every page if the whole scan came out sideways.
  3. 3Drop any page you do not need, or move pages into the right order.
  4. 4Save the PDF. It will now open the right way up everywhere.

Why rotating in a viewer does not stick

Most PDF viewers let you rotate the view, but that is a temporary setting for your screen. The instruction inside the file is unchanged, so the next person to open it sees it sideways again.

Changing it properly means rewriting that instruction, which is what this does. Nothing is re-photographed and no quality is lost.

Double sided documents scanned in two passes often come out interleaved as well as rotated. The same tool moves pages, so you can fix both in one go.

Questions

Will it lose quality?

No. Only the order and the which way up instruction change.

Can I delete a page here?

Yes, remove it and it simply will not be in the file you save.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, the thumbnails and controls work on a touch screen.
