Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about a laptop that I bought from your website on 3 March. The order number is 48215.

The laptop worked well for the first week, but it then began to switch itself off without warning. Yesterday it stopped working completely, and it will not start even when it is plugged in. I contacted your customer service line on Monday, but I was told to wait for an email, and I have not received one.

I would like you to collect the laptop and give me a full refund. If that is not possible, please send me a replacement as soon as you can. I would be grateful if you could reply within seven days, as I need a working computer for my studies. I have kept the box and all the packaging, so the laptop can be returned easily. A copy of my receipt is enclosed.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Ahmed Raza

Why it works

  • A formal letter starts Dear Sir or Madam and ends Yours faithfully.
  • Each bullet point in the task is covered in its own part of the letter.
  • The tone is polite but firm, and the writer gives a reason and a time limit.
